In Short

Heart Chakra is built to soften the nervous system and open the chest after long, demanding days. Calming lavender lowers cortisol; Egyptian rose geranium — the traditional heart-chakra oil — eases emotional tension; patchouli grounds racing thought. Crafted with a clean Japanese Berry & soy wax blend, a 100% cotton wick, and pure essential oils — non-toxic and pet-safe.

The Aromatherapy Effect

What Heart Chakra does.

Pure essential oils act on the limbic system the moment you breathe them in. Here's what this blend brings to a room.

Calms the nervous system

Lavender's linalool is one of the most-studied compounds for moderating cortisol and slowing the heart rate. The body softens within minutes of breathing it in.

Opens the heart space

Egyptian rose geranium is the traditional oil for the heart chakra — used to ease grief, emotional tension, and the chest tightness of held feeling.

Grounds racing thoughts

Patchouli's deep, earthy base notes pull restless attention down out of the head and into the body — useful when you can't stop overthinking.

Restores after hard days

Together the trio creates a recovery atmosphere — particularly effective after overwhelm, sorrow, or a night of broken sleep.

Candle Myths vs The Science

The MythThe Science
All scented candles are basically the sameMost use paraffin wax (a petroleum byproduct) and synthetic fragrance oils. Our Japanese Berry & soy wax blend burns 30–50% cooler and longer; pure essential oils deliver actual aromatherapeutic compounds rather than fragrance mimics.
Burning candles is bad for indoor airTrue of paraffin candles with metal-cored wicks — they release VOCs and trace heavy metals. Our Japanese Berry & soy wax blend on 100% cotton wicks burns cleanly; plant waxes release significantly less particulate than paraffin.
Essential oils don't actually do anythingMultiple peer-reviewed studies document measurable mood and physiological effects from essential oil inhalation — particularly lavender (sleep), bergamot (anxiety), and frankincense (focus / meditation). Concentration matters; we use therapeutic dosing.

At Aphora Botanicals

Aromatherapy is not
an afterthought.

Most scented candles use synthetic fragrance oils because they're cheaper, easier to formulate, and produce more consistent throw. The trade-off is that you smell perfume, not plant — and the documented physiological effects of actual aromatherapy disappear.

We use only pure essential oils, dosed at therapeutic concentration, layered into a clean plant wax blend of Japanese Berry and soy — a tradition used in Japanese candle-making for centuries. Burned on 100% cotton wicks, the result is non-toxic, pet-safe, longer-lasting, and actually does what aromatherapy has always been intended to do — shift the mood of the room in a way the body can feel.

Made for those who recognise the difference.

The Ritual

How to Burn

  1. One

    First burn matters.

Let the candle burn long enough on first lighting that the wax pool reaches the edges of the jar — about 1.5–3 hours. This prevents tunneling and unlocks the full burn life of the candle.

  2. Two

    Trim the wick.

Before each subsequent burn, trim the wick to about 5mm. Long wicks smoke and burn through wax faster than the essential oils can release.

  3. Three

    Burn for hours, not minutes.

Aromatherapy compounds need time to diffuse into the room. A 30-minute burn doesn't deliver the same effect as a 2-hour burn. Set aside time and let the room change.

  4. Four

    Extinguish carefully.

Blow out gently, or use a candle snuffer if you have one. Once extinguished, recentre the wick if it's leaning. Replace the lid (if provided) only after the wax has fully cooled.

Questions

What People Ask About Our Candles

Our wax blend pairs Japanese Berry wax (a premium plant wax used in traditional Japanese candle-making for centuries) with soy wax. Together they burn cleaner, slower, and more evenly than paraffin — and hold scent beautifully without releasing soot. Paraffin is a petroleum byproduct that burns hot and fast, releasing trace VOCs. Beeswax is excellent but not vegan. Japanese Berry + soy is plant-derived, biodegradable, and releases the essential-oil notes intact rather than burning them off too quickly.

First burn is the most important — let the wax pool reach the edges of the jar before extinguishing (usually 1.5–3 hours for the 13oz, 1–2 hours for the 5oz travel). This prevents 'tunneling' where the wax burns down the centre and leaves a ring of waste on the sides. Trim the 100% cotton wick to about 5mm before each subsequent burn.

Yes. Our candles are formulated with pet safety in mind, with essential oils at gentle concentrations and a non-toxic Japanese Berry & soy wax blend on a 100% cotton wick (lead-free and zinc-free). As with any aromatherapy candle, please ensure adequate ventilation, keep flames out of reach of children and pets, never leave unattended, and place on a stable heat-resistant surface.

No. The candle blend is dosed for diffusion (inhalation), not topical application. Some of the essential oils require dilution for skin contact and others can cause photosensitivity. For skincare-grade botanical oils, see our face and body range.

Once the wax is fully burned down (leave about 5mm — don't try to burn it dry), the amber glass jar is reusable. Wash with warm soapy water, peel the label, and use as a plant pot, makeup brush holder, or storage. The jar is also fully recyclable if you prefer.
